Why Year 12 Is the Most Important Year for A-Level Maths Success
Every September, I see the same story play out.
Students enter Year 13 hoping for top grades — but many are carrying shaky knowledge from Year 12. The pace increases, the pressure ramps up, and confidence can quickly unravel just when exams are around the corner.
The truth is, the journey to an A or A* in Year 13 doesn’t begin in Year 13 at all. It begins in Year 12.
That’s why my small group programmes are designed to support students right from the start.
Here’s why they work so well:
1️⃣ Every voice is heard. With around 10 students per group, nobody is lost in the crowd. Everyone contributes, and everyone gets personal attention.
2️⃣ It’s safe to ask questions. In many classrooms, students hold back for fear of looking silly. In my groups, they quickly realise they’re not alone — often nobody gets it at first. We work through it together until the penny drops.
3️⃣ We go deep, not fast. Instead of racing through topics, we take the time to build real understanding. By the time exams arrive, my students aren’t just memorising methods — they know exactly how and why things work.
4️⃣ Consistency matters. Two lessons a week, every week, right through to the exams. That steady rhythm builds confidence and keeps progress on track.
5️⃣ A safe, supportive community. Over time, the groups become a “refuge” from the pressures of school. Students know they have a trusted teacher, a group of peers on the same journey, and a space where their voice matters.
By the time Year 13 arrives, these foundations make all the difference. Revision is focused, confidence is high, and students are ready to perform at their best.
That’s why so many of my Year 12 students go on to achieve A/A*.
👉 If your child is in Year 12 and aiming high, now is the moment to act. Spaces in my Year 12 small group are open — and once they’re filled, they’re gone.
