Are You Frustrated That Your Child Isn’t Reaching Their Full Potential in Maths?

Does your child…

  • Lack confidence when approaching challenging math problems?

  • Struggle without a safe learning environment where they can make mistakes and ask questions freely?

  • Feel isolated without a supportive group of peers on the same journey?

  • Fail to see improvement in their grades and self-belief over time, despite hard work?

If you’re nodding along, you’re not alone. These are common frustrations for parents of high-achieving students – but it doesn’t have to stay this way.

Are You Ready to See a Change?

Imagine your child in a setting where they:

Feel safe and supported

A learning community where it’s okay to be wrong, ask “silly” questions, and learn from mistakes. Research shows that students truly learn best when they feel emotionally safe, supported, and a sense of belonging

(learningpolicyinstitute.org.)

Grow in confidence and results

Steadily improving their understanding and grades as they work towards that coveted Grade 9 at GCSE or A* at A-level. Research indicated that high-quality tutoring in small groups can accelerate learning by several months per year, putting top grades within reach.

Lee is a great tutor. He demonstrates a passion for his subject and has an engaging teaching style. Through a combination of group teaching and one to one sessions Lee supported two of my sons to achieve very high grades at A Level. Both were predicted C grades to start with, and finished up significantly better. The sessions are organised and time is managed well to deliver results. Both sons have gone on to secure their first choice at University. The proof is in the results. Difficult maths is conveyed clearly and simply and the boys seemed to progress quickly. Lee is a master class in how to deliver online tuition.”

How Our Program Helps Students Excel

In a nutshell, with a Masters Degree in Maths Education from the University of Warwick , I utilise a research backed programme to combine the power of small-group learning with personalized guidance to help each student thrive in maths.  Here’s how:

Focused Small-Group Classes:

Your child will attend weekly live classes in a small group (I keep groups very limited in size, so every student gets attention). Research shows that small-group tuition leads to significantly better progress – on average 4 months of additional advancement in a year – because the teaching is targeted and no one gets left behind. Unlike a big classroom, here they can finally get their questions answered.

Peer Power – Learning in a Team:

In our group program, your child will join like-minded peers who are also aiming high. They solve problems together, share strategies, and motivate each other. Working with fellow learners can turbocharge a student’s confidence and understanding of the material.  It also makes getting help feel normal rather than making them feel “different” – studying alongside peers removes any stigma about needing extra support The result? A sense of camaraderie and healthy, friendly competition that pushes them to do their best.

Expert Instruction & Exam Preparation:

As an experienced maths teacher, I know what it takes to achieve top grades. I personally design and lead each session. Lessons are aligned with the GCSE and A-Level curricula and tailored to the group’s needs – whether that’s mastering algebra techniques or practicing past papers for exam readiness. I focus on deep understanding (not rote memorization), problem-solving skills, and exam strategies honed from years of teaching and tutoring. Your child will get clear explanations, proven methods, and plenty of guided practice. I maintain high expectations for every student, but also provide the strong support they need to meet them – an approach linked to higher math achievement.

Personalized 1:1 Support (Exclusive for Members):

Worried your child has unique gaps or might need extra help on a tough topic? I’ve got it covered. One-on-one coaching is available in addition to the group classes – exclusively for students in the group program. If a particular concept isn’t clicking, or if your child wants additional challenge beyond the group work, they can book private sessions with me to focus exactly on those needs. This blended approach means your child gets the best of both worlds – the energy and collaboration of group learning, plus individualized attention when needed.

“Mr Guffick was very supportive and developed my sons math skills in a way that will stand in good stead through university and later in life. My sons confidence in approaching and solving hard math problems improved significantly, resulting in an A* in math and an A is further math, which is an excellent result.

We are grateful to Mr Guffick for his guidance and mentoring throughout my sons 6th form.”

In our sessions, students receive personal guidance while tackling problems.

For example, your child might work through a complex equation with me at their side offering tips and encouragement, while other group members also work on the same problem. This dynamic is powerful: one student’s question often sparks a helpful discussion for the whole group, and everyone gains from explaining their thinking out loud. The classroom energy is supportive and focused – every student is engaged, whether they’re solving a problem on the board or cheering on a peer.

By the end of each session, students walk away not only with new math skills, but with a boost in confidence from having overcome challenges together. It’s amazing to see how this collaborative learning experience transforms their attitude towards maths – they start to believe “I can do this!” and are eager for the next challenge.

“Lee is a superb teacher! He prepares all his lessons ahead, had an abundant source of material and most I importantly cares about his students. My daughter received an A* for both maths and further maths.”

Meet Your Tutor – Experience You Can Trust

Hi, I’m Lee Guffick, With several years of experience as Head of Maths at a leading independent school in the West Midlands and extensive work as an A-level Examiner, I bring a deep understanding of the current maths curriculum at both A-level and GCSE. My teaching background spans both the state and independent sectors, where I have been part of OFSTED “Outstanding” and ISI “Excellent” inspections—the highest possible ratings from both bodies.

I’m the founder and lead tutor of this program. I’ve helped many students from some of the UK’s leading schools achieve top grades at GCSE and A-level. My qualifications include a degree in Mathematics (BSc/MSc) and years of hands-on classroom experience, so I know the curriculum and the exam standards inside out.

Why did I create this group tutoring program?

Quite simply, because I’ve seen that even the brightest students can struggle when they don’t have the right support system. I’ve worked one-on-one with students who made progress, but then I witnessed something almost magical when I started running small group sessions – students became more engaged, motivated, and confident. They realized others had similar questions and hurdles. They began to help each other as much as I was helping them.

Research backs this up: learning in a collaborative group can enhance students’ confidence and performance significantly (thirdspacelearning.com). I built our program around this principle, creating an environment where asking questions is encouraged, mistakes are embraced as learning opportunities, and math is made truly accessible.

“Guffick Maths has been brilliant for our son's A-level maths. He joined the Year 13 group lessons and also has 1:1 sessions to catch up on the specific gaps in his knowledge. In only 3 months, Lee has boosted his confidence hugely and therefore his predicted grade has gone from a D to a B, with getting an A in the summer exams, a real prospect if this trajectory continues. Thank you, Lee. You are a star!”

Of course, every student is unique and sometimes individual attention is vital

That’s why I include one-on-one support for group members who need it. However, I make 1:1 tutoring available only alongside the group membership, not as a standalone offering. Why? Because over the years I’ve found that consistent group learning, supplemented by targeted one-on-one coaching, is the formula that produces the best results. The group provides structure, accountability, and motivation, while the one-on-one sessions tackle personal learning gaps.

This approach has proven immensely successful.

My students not only improve by several grade levels, but they also develop a genuine love for maths and learning and frequently report a raise in attainment across the board as a result of their renewed confidence and self-belief.

I am an active teacher at a leading independent school in the West Midlands and I’m also fully DBS-checked and dedicate myself to each student’s success. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a young person who once said

I’m just not good at maths

go on to score a Grade 9 or confidently ace their A-level exams. I truly believe any student can excel in mathematics with the right guidance and mindset. That belief is at the core of everything I do.

“I had Lee for 3 years through Year 11 to Year 13 and he has been a major help from improving my Maths ability. He helped build my confidence in a relaxed and collaborative environment with the sessions being led mostly by what I wanted to cover. I felt I could ask any questions no matter how trivial or silly they initially seemed and I was always met with an insightful and tailored response to my exact issue. Lee is punctual and very reliable with no last minute cancellations. He gives suggested work to complete between sessions aimed at your weaker areas so be prepared to put the work in to make the most of this incredible tutor. He helped me get an A* in Maths and aided me in getting into my chosen university.”

"My son had Lee as a Maths tutor for part of Year 13, these are his words:

"Lee is an amazing tutor, as someone who had missed a large amount of time in school, I had lost confidence in my Maths but every time I had a session with Lee, either in a group or a one-to-one call, I always left the session feeling more confident. My grades improved dramatically whilst I was with Lee; his teaching style was always helpful and tested my understanding of topics across the Maths syllabus, but I never felt under unfair pressure if asked a question. Lee always checked if everyone was OK with the questions we did and if someone had made a mistake, he would talk with them directly to make sure they fully understood the correct method to use"

As his Mum I would add that I wish I'd got Lee onboard sooner. My son often said that Lee explained things in a way that other teachers hadn't and there were very many lightbulb moments. My son has gone from struggling with A Level Maths to loving it."
